MANILA, Philippines — On the eve that Chelsea Football Club was crowned English Premier League champions for the fifth time (six overall including the old league), a football festival took place several thousand miles away last May 20 and 21 at the McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig.

The Yokohama Football Cup, organized by Chelsea’s local shirt sponsors, Yokohama saw dozens of clubs from several age groups compete in the two-day event.

“Worldwide, Yokohama is supporting football through the partnership with Chelsea Football Club,” said Shawn Pamintuan, Yokohama Philippines’ Marketing Director.

“Aside from the fact that we have been the shirt sponsor for Chelsea FC the past two seasons and we also have this commitment to sports. We are doing our part to promote football.”

“It is our first time to conduct a football tournament and it looks like we have very good participation,” added Pamintuan. “This is something – maybe a grassroots football program -- that we can build for the future.”
