Alleged contract killer gunned down
MANILA, Philippines - A suspected member of a gun-for-hire group tagged in the murder of a councilman was killed as he took bullets for his brother in a reported encounter with police in Quezon City over the weekend.
Vivencio Serabia was shot dead as he shielded his brother, Marlon, in a firefight with policemen at their house along Ilang-Ilang street in Barangay Pasong Tamo at around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday.
The Serabia brothers allegedly opened fire at police officers who served a warrant for Marlon’s arrest.
The warrant was issued by Judge Janet Abergos of the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 32 for a case of physical injury.
Probers said Marlon managed to flee as Vivencio was exchanging gunfire with police.
Police said a 9mm Armscor pistol, a .22-caliber revolver and fired cartridge cases were recovered at the scene.
Reports said that the Serabias were tagged in the killing of Jerzon Dazo, 51, councilman of Barangay Greater Fairview.
The suspects allegedly fired at Dazo while he was driving his tricycle along Dart street last week.
