Basketball stars back 1Pacman’s Romero

MANILA, Philippines - Gilas Pilipinas mainstays Jason Castro and Terrence Romeo and two-time PBA MVP James Yap are endorsing the candidacy of1Pacman Party-list No. 1 nominee Mikee Romero for a congressional seat in the coming elections.

“Malaki kasi paniwala ko na maraming magagawa si Boss Mikee para sa sports, at yung pinaka-importante maraming kabataan ang matutulungan nya. Kung mananalo yung 1Pacman, malaking bagay hindi lang sa basketball, kundi sa buong sports  ( I believe Boss Mikee can do a lot for sports  and help a lot of youths. If 1Pacman wins, it will be a big boost not only to basketball but in alll sports),” said Castro, who played for Romero’s amateur team that broke several records in the PBL. Romeo, who is playing for Romero’s team in the PBA – the GlobalPort Batang Pier – said Philippine sports need 1Pacman, especially Romero.

“Boss Mikee is not only a sportsman, he’s also a financial expert that’s why the Congress needs 1Pacman party-list,” said Romeo.

“Sports, education and employment are the advocacies of 1Pacman Party-list,” added Romeo, who saw for himself Romero’s concern for the indigenous like the Aetas of Zambales during the team’s team building.

Through his vast connections, 1Pacman’s No. 1 nominee had also helped minorities in Zamboanga, providing livelihood projects for them and doing medical missions regularly.

If elected, Romero’s main agenda is the establishment of Department of Sports which he said is very important in the country’s bid for en elusive gold medal.

Yap, on his part, vowed to help 1Pacman because he believed it could do a lot for Philippine sports.Aside from Castro, Yap and Romeo, fellow Gilas member Marc Pingris is also endorsing 1Pacman, saying: Romero could do a lot  for sports and we hope he should be given the chance to serve Congress becuase he could do a lot for the youth.

Also backing 1Pacman Party-list are Ginebra star LA Tenorio, two-time MVP James Yap and volleyball star Aby Marano.

A self-confessed Crispa fanatic, 1Pacman’s No. 1 nominee earned raves in the early 90s when he made Tenorio and La Salle star Joseph Yeo play for his team in the PBL.

Aside from Romero, other nominees of 1Pacman are Manny Pacquiao’s business manager (endorsements) Eric Pineda and Nick Enciso, the fighter’s associate from Los Angeles.
