Jennifer P. Rendon - The Freeman

ILOILO CITY, Philippines —Around P12 million was lost in a fire that gutted a feed milling plant at Barangay Mali-ao in Pavia, Iloilo on Sunday, December 10.

Inspector Jesus Valenzuela, fire marshall of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Pavia, said the amount was an estimate of the structure and raw materials gutted by fire at the Pavia Feed Milling Corporation, a leasee of BMEG Philippines.

Valenzuela said there were more than 2,000 sacks of raw materials for feeds that were destroyed by fire.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Carlos Zerrudo called up BFP-Pavia after he saw black smoke billowing from the plant while he was driving in the area. The fire call was at 3:50 p.m. and responding firefighters put the blaze under control at 8:08 p.m. The fire out was declared at 3:47 yesterday morning.

The town's firefighters requested for augmentation from the nearby fire stations in Sta. Barbara town and Iloilo City.

Also, Iloilo City-based Iloilo Citizens Action Group Volunteer Fire Brigade and Federation Iloilo Fire Brigade also responded.

Valenzuela said they are still determining the cause of fire. "Based on our initial investigation, it originated at the rear portion of the stock room," he added.

No one was injured or killed during the incident. (FREEMAN)
