Negros Occidental has 17k students for Grade 11

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Education–Negros Occidental Division has a total of 17,853 students enrolled so far for Grade 11 for school year 2016-2017.

Division Schools Superintendent Freddie Mocon said DepEd, as of May 18, is validating the number of students who are sure to enroll and go back to school for the school year, according to PIA-6 report.

The incoming grade 11 students are for senior high and the enrolment is still ongoing until the first day of classes set June 13.

Of the total number of enrolled students, 9,128 chose the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track which is composed of Agri-fishery Arts, Home Economics, Information and Communications Technology and Industrial Arts.

On the other hand, 8,725 chose the Academic Track which composes of the following strands: Accountancy, Business and Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and the General Academic Strand.

Further, Gladys Armylaine Sales, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, said they are expecting more than 19,000 students to enroll for grade 11. She said they are mapping all of their students that registered for the senior high school program back in January.

“Starting May 2 until June, we are trying to reach out to students who have registered themselves,” Sales said.

Meanwhile, a training was conducted in Dumaguete City for senior high teachers, May 21, led by DepEd-Negros Island Region. For Negros Oriental province, 554 senior high teachers will be deployed. (FREEMAN)
