Use social media to inspire — Palma

Ermida Q. Moradas - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Just as others are fasting as a way to repent and sacrifice, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma is advising the Catholic faithful to abstain from using the social media during the Holy Week if their intention is not to inspire others.

Palma also said that social media should be used to give inspiration and hope to others this Lenten season, and that there are a lot of good things that are worth sharing.

“Use social media to bring hope and inspiration, joy. We’re using social media in its intended good purpose and anything less from that, siguro mag-abstain gyud ta," said Palma.

Palma encourages the Catholic faithful to reflect, confess and appreciate the religious spirit of the season and not to spend the holidays at the beach.

He hopes that Catholics will appreciate the real essence of Holy Week and participate in church activities.

“Panahon para maghatag ug pamalandong, panahon nga importante ang confession,” he said.

Palma also said that this is also the perfect moment for reconciliation. He  has high hopes that this Lenten season may enlighten the people in how God live in the hearts, the archbishop said.

"This is an invitation to an experience of how God loves us, sa iyang gibuhat labi na sa iyang paghalad sa iyang kaugalingon sa iyang kamatayon sa krus. Tungod niini unta, when you realize what God has become, unta magdala ug kausaban sa atong kinabuhi because we could not live as if ang atong kinabuhi nga walay bili but for the love of God,” he said. —/JBB (FREEMAN)
