Cero claims final slot in JRG Tennis
CEBU, Philippines - Rucel Cero scored an upset victory at the expense of Marc Pradel to advance into the boys 18 finals of the 22nd JRG Gullas Tennis Cup yesterday at the covered courts of Naga City.
Cero blasted Pradel in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, to set up a gold medal match with John Clyde Patterson, who clinched the finals berth after ousting Francis Lambayan, 6-2, 6-4.
The boys 16 finals, on the other hand, will feature Venz Alforque against Vinz Lominoque. Alforque handed Jayfor Canono the axe in convincing fashion, 6-2, 6-0, while Lominoque kicked out Josh Largo, 6-3, 6-4.
Largo also failed to advance to the boys 14 finals after suffering a 4-6, 3-6 defeat at the hands of Eric Longakit.
Longakit will battle Gabriel Andre Trazo in the finals after the latter escaped with a 4-6, 6-0, 10-4 victory over Ashton Villanueva.
In the boys 12 finals, Ormoc City’s Nicholas Ocat and Hans Cabellon will take on each other. Ocat disposed Mitch Largo, 6-1, 6-0, while Cabellon upended Ehtan Quino, 6-4, 0-6, 10-7.
Tiffany Nocos and Jullina Maravillas arranged a finals duel in the girls 12 class after defeating Hela Riza Coderos, 6-0, 6-0 and Kitim McKenzie, 6-2, 6-1, respectively.
Shyne Villareal, for her part, dispatched Kristin Renee Salimbangon, 6-2, 6-0 to advance in the girls 18 finals. Villareal will be facing the winner of the semis match between Elizabeth Abarquez and Cristella Marie Sampan.
In the unisex 10-under, Vincent John Canete claimed his finals slot at the expense of Connor Cuizon. Canete will take on Douglas Maravillas who beat Aaron Kevin Tabura, 5-3, 4-0, for the finals berth. (FREEMAN)
