Man, wife killed in road accident in Naga City
CEBU, Philippines - A man and his wife were killed in a road crash between a cargo truck and a motorcycle in barangay Langtad, Naga City, Cebu around noon yesterday.
The victims were identified as Cedric Magallon and his wife Feriola, both residents of Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City. The driver of the truck was unhurt.
The two were riding a motorcycle with plate number GE 69379 bound for San Fernando when the incident happened.
The driver of the six wheeler cargo truck, Marlo Fermacio, 33, a native of Guihulngan, Negros Oriental and is temporarily residing in Lower Pakigne, Minglanilla, Cebu.
The truck, bearing plate number NCM 52, was also headed for San Fernando to deliver sacks of rice.
According to Police Officer 2 Roly Getubig of Naga City Police Station, the cargo truck had tried to overtake the motorcycle which prompted Cedric, who was driving, to reduce the motorcycle's speed.
But the cargo truck sideswiped the motorcycle as it moved to overtake it, causing the motorcycle to crash into the truck.
Cedric and Feriola were rushed to Minglanilla District Hospital but were both declared dead on arrival.
Fermacio voluntarily surrendered to the police and is currently detained at the Naga police station.
Relatives of the victim and Fermacio are in discussion to come up with a possible settlement. —/JBB (FREEMAN)
