Sogod stuns Danao, Toledo now 3-0 in Gov. Cup

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Sogod stunned the previously undefeated Danao City, 68-60, to make the quarterfinal race more interesting in North Division Bracket 2 of the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities and Municipalites Basketball Tournament at the Sogod municipal gym last Friday night.

Sogod pulled off its first win in two starts despite playing without three key players in Alrancis Tiu, Rico Omongos and Carl Ace Berengel who were serving their one-game suspension after being ejected during their fight-marred match against Balamban last April 26 in Danao.

In other games, Balamban came from behind to upset the heavily favored Borbon, 111-109, while Carmen punched a 76-64 win over Asturias.

Balamban and Carmen thus forged a three-way tie at second place with Danao on identical 2-1 win-loss records.

Down South, Toledo City spared no mercy in its 40-point blowout of Alegria, 86-46, to stretch its clean record to 3-0 at the Alcantara municipal gym.

Badian, on the other hand, dealt Barili its first loss, 90-88, while Dumanjug frustrated host Alcantara, 71-53.

Badian, Barili and Dumanjug are currently tied with 2-1 cards, while Alcantara and Alegria remain listless after three games.

Tonight, action swings to Boljoon municipal gym with a double-header on tap. Santander hopes to end its two-game skid when it batles Alcoy at 6:30 pm, while host Boljoon guns for its third straight victory as it faces off with Ginatilan at 8 pm.— EBV (FREEMAN)
