Donaire may bago nang promoter

MANILA, Philippines - Nakakita na si dating four-division world titleholder Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire, Jr. ng bago niyang promoter.

Ito ay matapos pumirma ang 34-anyos na si Donaire sa isang multifight promotional contract sa Ringstar Sports ni Richard Schaefer, ang dating Chief Executive Officer ng Golden Boy Promotions ni Oscar De La Hoya.

“Exploring what was out there in the new landscape of boxing was unnerving and exciting at the same time,” sabi ni Donaire sa panayam ng ESPN.

“I have known Richard for many years and have always respected what he has been able to do for the fighters he promotes. At this point in my career I want the biggest fights possible and Richard’s track record to deliver them speaks for itself,” dagdag pa nito.

Isang buwan bago matapos ang kanyang kontrata sa Top Rank Promotions ay binitawan siya ni Bob Arum.

Sa ilalim ng Top Rank ay hinirang si Donaire bilang 2012 Fighter of the Year at nagkampeon sa flyweight, bantamweight, junior featherweight at featherweight divisions.

“I think Nonito is one of those can’t-miss fighters who always knows how to entertain the crowd,” wika ni Schaefer kay Donaire. “He’s one of those guys who is never in a bad fight. I am very excited to get involved with him at this point of his career. I think there are some big fights ahead for him.”

Kasalukuyang bitbit ng tubong Talibon, Bohol ang 37-4-0 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 24 KOs.

Huling lumaban si Donaire, lumaki sa Northern California at nakabase ngayon sa Las Vegas, Nevada, noong Nobyembre kung saan niya naisuko ang suot na junior featherweight crown kay Mexican Jessie Magdaleno sa undercard ng Manny Pacquiao-Jessie Vargas fight sa Las Vegas.

Nabigo si Donaire na makakuha ng rematch kay Magdaleno na naging dahilan kung bakit siya humiwalay sa Top Rank. Plano ni Donaire na bumalik sa featherweight division.

Posibleng lumaban si Dsonaire sa isang tune-up fight sa Setyembre o Oktubre sa undercard ng isa sa World Boxing Super Series tournament cards ni Schaefer.

Ilan sa mga puwedeng hamunin ni Donaire ay sina titleholders Leo Santa Cruz, Abner Mares at Lee Selby at sina dating world titlist Carl Frampton.
