EDITORIAL - Resilience
The victory of Manny Pacquiao in his return bout with Timothy Bradley, according to government officials, showed the resilience of Filipinos. It was a piece of good news at the start of the Holy Week, with resilience reflecting the spirit of Easter Sunday.
Easter, the day of the risen Christ, reminds the faithful that rebirth is possible, that there is always hope even in defeat and the depths of despair. Hope is needed by those who need to rise from the ruins of disaster: victims of last year’s deadly Super Typhoon Yolanda and the powerful earthquake. Hope is also needed by the people of Zamboanga City who have not yet recovered from the three-week siege by the Moro National Liberation Front. This Easter Sunday, the nation offers prayers for peace not only in Zamboanga City but also in all the places in Mindanao that will benefit if the recently signed peace agreement works.
The Holy Week is also a time for reflecting on what needs changing for the better. The commitments are affirmed on Easter Sunday, a day dedicated to reform and rebirth. Here’s hoping that the Holy Week was well spent.
A blessed Easter to all!
