IN PHOTOS: Supermoon views across the globe
MANILA, Philippines — The world witnessed a supermoon on Sunday. A supermoon phenomenon occurs when moon's orbit is closer than average to Earth.
Sunday’s full moon appeared bigger and brighter in the sky. It is the first of the three consecutive supermoons in the next few weeks.
The next two supermoons will occur on Jan. 1 and 31, 2018.
In the Philippines, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the moon reached its perigee at 04:43 p.m. but it reached the full moon phase nearly 12 midnight.
PAGASA added that the supermoon can appear up to 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than usual.
