2 village execs shot dead
MANILA, Philippines — Two village officials were gunned down in Quezon and Masbate in the past two days.
Eduardo Berina, 50, chairman of Barangay Ilayang in Lucena, Quezon, was in front of his house when he was shot at around 6:45 a.m. yesterday.
Prior to the gun attack, Berina reportedly received a death threat through a text message sent to the barangay secretary.
In Masbate, Sophia Cordero, treasurer of Barangay Sto. Cristo in Uson town, was in Sitio Daan-Lungsod when she was shot.
Meanwhile, in Laguna, carpenter Bernabe San Miguel, 59, a suspect in the killing of Indian businessman Buta Singh Dhaliwal on Sunday, was killed in an alleged shootout with police operatives in Barangay Sto. Tomas, Biñan on Monday.
Jeepney driver Novie Baldemor, 30, was shot in the head by his unidentified passenger in Tayum, Abra on Friday.
Witnesses said Valdemor was shot before the assailant alighted in Barangay Bumagkat.
