'Odette' to intensify before making landfall over Cagayan

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Odette may intensify into a tropical storm before making landfall over Cagayan province on Thursday evening, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
The weather disturbance has slightly intensified as it continues to move west over the Philippine Sea.
At 10 a.m., the tropical depression was located 540 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gusts of up to 65 kph.
It is forecasted to move west at 30 kph.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 are still raised in the following areas:
- Abra
- Apayao
- Babuyan group of islands
- Batanes
- Cagayan
- Ilocos Norte
- Ilocos Sur
- Ifugao
- Isabela
- Kalinga
- Mountain Province

- 24 hours (Friday morning): 50 km west Southwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
- 48 hours (Saturday morning): 575 km West of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (Outside PAR)
- 72 hours (Sunday morning): 1,155 km West of Calayan, Cagayan (Outside PAR)
- 96 hour (Monday morning): 1,525 km West of Calayan, Cagayan (Outside PAR)
Estimated rainfall is from moderate to heavy within the 350-km diameter of the weather disturbance, according to PAGASA.
"Sea travel remains risky over the Northern and Eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon due to the Northeasterly surface windflow enhanced by the approaching Tropical Depression," the state weather bureau said.
Wave height in the open sea is forecasted to rise from 1.25 to 4 meters. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
