Councilor shot dead

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A town councilor and his two companions were killed in a gun attack in Barangay Lopez Jaena, Murcia, Negros Occidental on Thursday.

Eden Bacordo, councilor of Salvador Benedicto town; his girlfriend Lea Mae Saldua and Arnold Larida, an employee at Bacordo’s office, died at the scene.

Bacordo is the son of a former rebel leader who is now the chairman of Barangay Bagong Silang also in Salvador Benedicto. The father of the victim refused to speculate on the motive for the killing of his son.

Bacordo was tagged in the killing of a leader of a breakaway faction of the New People’s Army in July.
