MANILA, Philippines - A police officer and 39 other drug suspects were arrested as the government continued its war against illegal drugs across the country on Thursday.
Police Officer 1 James Andrew Bulayungan of the Provincial Police Safety Command in Batangas was caught buying shabu in Barangay Sampaguita, Lipa, Batangas at around 4:30 p.m.
Bulayungan was relieved from his post following the incident.
“He was not the target. It just happened that he was seen buying shabu from two suspects,” said Senior Inspector Hazel Luma-ang, Batangas police spokesperson.
Computer technician Jonie Dalita, 31, and Johnlery Bathan, 29, who sold the illegal drugs, were also arrested. They reportedly yielded 10 sachets of shabu.
In Bulacan, 21 suspected drug personalities were arrested in San Jose del Monte, San Miguel, Bustos Pandi and San Ildefonso. Police said 34 sachets of shabu, marked money and drug paraphernalia were recovered from the suspects.
Nine other drug suspects were nabbed in stings in Naga, Camarines Sur, seven in Laguna and two in Sara, Iloilo. – Ed Amoroso, Arnell Ozaeta, Ramon Lazaro, Emmanuel Tupas, Francis Elevado
