Drugs eyed in ex-cop’s slay

Gilbert Bayoran - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Police are eyeing drugs in the killing of former Police Officer 2 Ernie Jaminal, who was found with several gunshots to the body in this city on Thursday.

Probers found three bullet shells for a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene in Purok Sigay, Barangay 2.

Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias, city police Station 2 commander, expressed belief Jaminal might have been suspected as a police informant.

Villarias said the officer was frequently seen in Barangay 2, a known drug-infested village.

Jaminal was arrested during a drug operation conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in 2013, but the case filed against him was dismissed in 2015.

Drug suspect killed in CamSur

A drug suspect was killed in an alleged firefight with police officers  in Buhi, Camarines Sur on Saturday night.

Ariel Biag of Barangay Bagumbayan, Baao town allegedly pulled out a gun after sensing that he was dealing with undercover agents.

Police recovered from the suspect a .38 caliber revolver, three plastic sachets said to contain shabu and marked money.

Biag was ranked seventh on the police drug list, authorities said.

Shabu in jails

Despite strict security, shabu still managed to penetrate jails in the Negros Island Region.

An inspection conducted recently at the Metro Bacolod District Jail in Barangay Handumanan, resulted in the recovery of three plastic sachets of shabu, drug paraphernalia, bladed weapons and mobile phones.

The inspection was ordered after authorities noticed several vehicles stopping near the facility and passengers throwing things into the compound. – With Francis Elevado
