Fire hits Zamboanga del Sur market, damage set at P20 M

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A big fire razed Wednesday night the entire public market of Pitogo town, Zamboanga Del Sur, with damage estimated at P20 million, according to authorities.

Pitogo Municipal Police Station reported the fire started about 11 p.m. in one of the stalls occupied by a certain Amalia Labostro which quickly spread.

Responding fire fighters from the nearby towns of Dinas and Pagadian City battled to put out the fire for almost three hours before it was contained.

According to police, the fire was overwhelming that it razed four blocks of duplex-type building with 30 stalls owned and operated by the Pitogo local government.

Affecting 30 tenants, not a single property was salvaged from the fire.

The police said no one was reported hurt during the fire incident which damaged more than P20 million worth of properties.
