Jeepney fare cut in Bicol, Cagayan Valley OK’d
MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) yesterday approved a 50-centavo fare cut for public utility jeepneys in the Bicol region and Cagayan Valley.
LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez said the fare reduction was decided after public hearings with multisectoral groups on Jan. 23, Jan. 31 and Feb. 5.
“People in Bicol and Cagayan should also benefit from the series of oil price rollbacks,” Ginez said.
He said the fare cut covers only the first four kilometers. The rate for the succeeding kilometers remains the same.
The minimum fare in Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate and Sorsogon as well as Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino is now P7.
Ginez reminded jeepney operators and drivers to give a 20 percent discount to persons with disabilities, senior citizens and students.
