Slain Bukidnon mayor’s widow seeks new investigation

Gerry Lee Gorit - The Philippine Star

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – The widow of Mayor Mario Okinlay of Impasug-ong town in Bukidnon has called for a new investigation into her husband’s murder.

Julia Okinlay, a municipal councilor, told The STAR on Tuesday she hopes the National Bureau of Investigation would investigate the killing.

“We want true justice,” she said.

Police had tagged the New People’s Army (NPA) in the murder of the mayor, who was ambushed while traveling in a convoy of motorcycles with police and Army escorts from an outreach program last July 2.

“I have doubts that the NPA killed him because the NPA has denied it,” Julia said. “We should look at all angles.”
