Recruitment firm officer accused of P5-M theft

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A liaison officer of a recruitment firm in Quezon City is being accused of stealing P5 million using ghost employees.

Nora Garcia-Lopez, 57, allegedly stole P5,783,430.12 in cash from Miramar Manpower Services Inc. based in Barangay Socorro, police said.

Officials of the recruitment agency said Lopez made it appear that nine of their employees hired by two companies received their salaries from January 2015 to September 2017.

Miramar Manpower sent demand letters to the two companies last September after it did not receive the payments. The two companies replied they have no outstanding balance.

Police said Lopez has been with the recruitment agency for 11 years.
