MMDA: 4 Pasay bus terminals face closure

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has recommended the closure of four bus terminals in Pasay City for allegedly operating without permits.

These terminals are operated by St. Jude Bus, Pamar, Ferdinand Bus Line and Fortune Star.

Jojo Garcia, chief of staff of MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim, said they ordered the bus firms to secure business permits within 15 days.

Garcia said they have given warning to the operators of the bus terminals for violating the “nose in, nose out” policy.

The MMDA inspected yesterday 16 bus terminals in Pasay to determine their compliance with the policy.

Last Wednesday, the MMDA shut down three bus terminals in Quezon City for violating the “nose in, nose out” rule. These are Roro, DLTB and Dimple Star.

Truckers to seek dialogue with DOTr

Meanwhile, truckers will seek a dialogue with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to discuss its plan to phase out trucks that are at least 15 years old, an official said yesterday.

Aduana Business Club president Mary Zapanta said they want to find out when the DOTr would implement the policy.

Under Department Order 2017-009 issued by the DOTr in April, franchise validity of trucks that were made 15 years ago or earlier will no longer be renewed by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

The request for a meeting with Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade will be made by the Confederation of Truckers Associations of the Philippines (CTAP), according to Zapanta.

CTAP director Alberto Suansing said they would discuss with Tugade the planned phaseout of aging trucks.

Zapanta said they would seek amendments to the policy to avoid problems that may arise from the shortage of trucks.
