MANILA, Philippines - Two fires broke out in Manila and Quezon City since Thursday night.

Jaypee Nillusgin died when a fire started in his bedroom at his family’s two-story home along Don Primitivo street in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City at around 11:36 p.m.

The fire reached second alarm before it was put out nearly an hour later, according to city fire marshal Senior Superintendent Manuel Manuel.

The fire caused approximately P50,000 in structural damages after it razed eight houses in the area, affecting 12 families.

Manuel said the blaze was caused by faulty electrical wiring.

In Manila, at least 200 families were left homeless when a fire broke out in Port Area before dawn yesterday.

The fire started at the second floor of a house on 13th street shortly before 4 a.m., according to the Manila Fire Bureau (MFB).

The fire reached fifth alarm before it was put out at around 6:36 a.m., the MFB said.

No one was reported hurt but the property damage was pegged at P2 million.
