POEA warns training centers

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has warned training and language centers against recruiting Filipino workers for overseas jobs.

The POEA said these centers are not authorized to recruit and deploy Filipino workers abroad.

“Offering jobs abroad without authority is illegal recruitment,” POEA chief Hans Cacdac said.

Cacdac said training and language centers found to be recruiting workers would be charged in court.

The POEA reported that an employee of 8 Carat Cash and Credit Inc. has been arrested for illegal recruitment.

Cacdac identified the suspect as Alexandra Balagtas, who allegedly collected P120,000 from job applicants for non-existent jobs as caregiver and beautician in Taiwan.

Balagtas’ arrest came after four victims filed a complaint against her with the POEA.
