Cavaliers’ win causes problems for gaming firm

Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Those who placed bets on the final championship game between the National Basketball Association’s Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors with e-Games outlets are complaining they have yet to receive their prizes days after the game ended.

The Cavaliers won, and the e-Games outlets’ problems started.

A Manila Police District official said he placed a P10,000 bet at the e-Games outlet on T.M. Kalaw on Sunday and tried to collect his winnings hours after the game had been decided.

“My happiness was suddenly replaced with apprehension after the people at the e-Games told me that I cannot claim the winnings because the company has yet to send the prize money to them,” he said.

The lawman added that he was supposed to received P24,000 for his P10,000 bet.

A tabloid photographer told The STAR that he was able to collect P2,400 from the e-Games Otis outlet after two days.

The source said he had tried to collect his winnings six times, but each time he was told to come back or just call the main office.

Julieann Aguirre, an assistant supervisor at e-Games, said there were a lot of winners and there is a priority list for the release of the winnings.

A source said the online gaming firm experienced heavy losses because many bettors placed their money on the Cavaliers.
