MANILA, Philippines — Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson "brings not honor but embarrassment" to the University of Santo Tomas, the UST Alumni Association Singapore Chapter said on Tuesday.

"[Uson] conveniently bends the truth and uses her government position to purposely attack her opponents and critics of the current administration," the group said in a statement.

They demanded that the UST Alumni Association revoke the Thomasian Award for Government Service it awarded to the Presidential Communications Office official.

"We hold the USTAAI officials accountable for the humiliation, confusion and reputational damage that this senseless recognition has caused many concerned Thomasians," they added.

The group pointed out that Uson "is known to purvey fake news for the purpose of advancing her personal agenda" and "does not embody the core values that real Thomasians uphold."

Her "unbecoming conduct before the public" is also "diametrically opposed to what UST stands for and to its motto of 'Truth in Charity,'" the alumni association also added.

"Honoring her with this citation is a serious error in judgment and an affront to the sensibilities of a huge segment of the Thomasian community," the association also said.

The alumni association joined the sentiment of other Thomasians in saying that Uson does not deserve the citation.

Following Uson's citation, fellow Thomasians Rep. Tom Villarin (Akbayan party-list) and Filipino-American novelist Bino Realuyo both expressed their intent to return the award they received from the UST.

The PCOO official is a graduate of Medical Technology in 1998 at the UST. She also studied medicine at the same university but stopped to pursue her show business career.

Uson, who maintains a Facebook blog with millions of followers, previously received criticisms for her social media blunders. Some netizens already filed an online petition to oust her.
