Too many undesirable aliens these days

WHAT MATTERS MOST - Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez - The Freeman

We do not want to sound like Donald Trump, but there is an emerging problem that our country is facing today. The Philippines is being inundated by too many aliens, some of whom are illegal and are linked to so many scams like money laundering, trafficking in persons, pedophilia, mail-order- bride and many other shenanigans.

Because our government is too occupied with the war against drugs, we seem to have overlooked that the Philippines is being besieged by too many aliens, many of whom are decidedly undesirable.

We do not know what the Bureau of Immigration is doing these days. There are too many illegal aliens in our country. And we do not see any purposive action on the part of the government. Our OFWs abroad are being subjected to unfair, unjust, and inhuman treatment. But we seem to be too tolerant of these undesirable aliens in our own land.

How on earth did it happen that one hundred seventy-seven Indonesians were given Philippine passports and were about to board a PAL flight on their pilgrimage to Mecca. It could not have happened without any fraudulent scheme on the part of syndicates with connections in the DFA, in the BI and other relevant government agencies.

And how come that many undocumented Chinese are working in Divisoria, selling and trading cheap and highly questionable goods that pose grave and imminent danger to the health of the Filipino consumers?

How come that more than 20 Taiwanese were arrested in Boracay supposedly for being involved in the use and trading of drugs? And why are there too many Koreans all over Metro Manila and other cities and provinces?

Almost everyday, the DOLE puts up a full-page advertisement announcing that hundreds of aliens are seeking to gain employment in our country.

Under Article 40, Book One of the Labor Code, the DOLE can only grant an alien employment permit after a determination where it is shown by convincing evidence that there are no available Filipinos who are competent, able, and willing to perform the activities for which the alien worker is desired.

Why is DOLE always granting too many alien employment permits when there are too many Filipinos who are willing, able, and competent to do the jobs being coveted by too many aliens? Why do OFWs have to leave our land to seek employment abroad when there are many jobs here that are given away to aliens?

What is the immigration policy of the government? Why are we too lax when it comes to admitting highly questionable foreigners, who enter our ports of entry as tourists but engage in syndicated crimes here in the Philippines?

Our own compatriots, especially the working class, when they arrive in Dubai, Kuwait, Jeddah, Cairo, Tel Aviv, and in all the ports of entry in Europe and America are being subjected to very long interrogations and embarrassing questions within the listening distance of other nationals like Japanese, Europeans, and Americans. Why then are our airport immigration officers too lenient in admitting aliens to our land?

Our Immigration authorities must be blind, deaf or dumb not to be aware of all these things.

OFWs in Kota Kinabalu,in Sarawak, Penang, Johore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Taipeh, China, and in the Middle East are languishing in jailsfor the slightest misdemeanor, and some are even due for execution.

But we, in the Philippines are too forgiving of aliens that do not have respect for our women, are blatantly disrespectful of our culture and morals, and look at us with disdain and condescension.
