Duterte and Marcos top in latest SWS survey

WHAT MATTERS MOST - Atty. Josephus Jimenez - The Philippine Star

Well, for the first time, it is neither Senator Grace Poe nor Vice President Jejomar Binay who is on top of the latest SWS survey. It is Mayor Rodrigo Duterte finally! And all I could say is that I told you so. I told you a number of months ago that Binay peaked too early, even a year ago. Thus, he exposed himself to the barrage of attacks from the many demolition teams of the administration as well as from the camp of Poe. And look what has happened to the hitherto topnotcher in all surveys some months ago, he is now biting the dust. And his sliding down shall continue in the same manner that Manny Villar was demolished in 2010.

And the downfall of Grace Poe's candidacy has finally started, and by the looks of it, it shall follow the Binay downturn. Now, it is time for Duterte to rise and the upturn will peak on election day. Anywhere he goes, the PDP official candidate for president is mobbed by crowds of supporters who come from all strata and sectors, students, women, professionals, blue-collar workers, call center agents, OFWs, even drivers, construction workers, janitors, messengers, jobless, homeless, and hopeless Filipinos. Believe me, even many nuns and priests are with Duterte. They are behind him because of Duterte's strong stand against drugs and crimes.

Duterte is very strong here in Cebu. I am now inclined to believe the Garcias that Duterte  may either get at least one million votes in the whole province and cities in Cebu with a total voting population of 2.7 million, or even will lead Roxas and Poe by at least a million. Of course, Digong is strong in Mindanao, not only in Davao and the whole of Region 11. He is also leading in Region 9, the Zamboanga Peninsula, in Region 10 or Northern Mindanao and in Central Mindanao or Region 12, more so in Region 13 or the Caraga region and in the BASUTA island provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Tawitawi. Duterte showed strength in Metro Manila when he entered the enclaves of the rich near Ayala Alabang, particularly in the Filinvest area. I should know. I live nearby.

Vice presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bong Bong" Marcos has also gotten the top slot in the survey for the position of vice president. This is the first time that Chiz Escudero has been reduced into a second fiddle, and I think there is no more turning back. Leni Robredo will even overtake Escudero and thus, the strongest rival of Marcos will be Leni and no longer Chiz. Although we believed that Senator Alan Peter Cayetano did better than "Bong Bong" in the vice presidential debate, I do not think that Cayetano can ever dislodge Marcos from the winning slot.

A Duterte presidency and a Marcos vice presidency will be an amazing combination, whereby Mayor Digong as president, will make the Filipinos from Visayas and Mindanao feel that they are amply represented. And Marcos will represent Luzon. Of course, there will be a lot of questions about Duterte's stand on allegations of summary executions, and Marcos has a lot of explaining to do about Martial Law atrocities and accusations of hidden wealth. But, all factors being considered, the cross-section of the whole nation feels that we need Digong to fight crimes and drugs, and that we need Marcos too, to start the process of renewal and reconciliation.
