The Binay-Trillanes debate

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

The news I just read says: "Military Shoots Dead Reporter in Custody." If he were a pig, Cebuanos would call him double dead. But that's only a newspaper boner.

* * *

Newspaper boners are common. Take this one: "After viewing the headless, armless, and legless torso, the coroner voiced the opinion that the person is dead."

* * *

VP Jojo Binay calls his detractors "matapobre." My understanding of this word in that someone from the upper strata of society is sneering down on the poor elements of the same society. Which makes VP Jojo's gripe off tanget.

* * *

Secretary Mar Roxas wants VP Jojo to face the Senate conducting an investigation on his (Jojo's) alleged questionable wealth. How can Mar be so cruel knowing as he surely does how the senators treat their suspects?

* * *

There is so much talk about the Jojo Binay-Sonny Trillanes debate. It's being awaited by many including the teleserye fanatics who are even willing to miss their favorite show in favor of the debate.

* * *

A friend speaking on this Binay-Trillanes verbal slugfest said: "I want to see how Jojo can make Trillanes eat his charges...and/or how Trillanes can pour more mud on the Veep."

* * *

The Provincial Board has approved the anti-truancy ordinance which prohibits elementary and high school students (in the province) to loiter in shopping malls and Internet cafés and other entertainment areas during class hours. One parent who gave this ordinance the thumbs up said the city also needs a similar measure.

* * *

The same parent wants to know if the PB ordinance includes the cockpits as among the banned entertainment places. Cockpit? Why cockpits? He said there are some students who loiter in the cockpits or buwangan during class hours. But aren't cockpits open only on Sundays and/or holidays when there are no classes?

A husband and wife known to their neighbors as vendors of religious images although they're non-Catholics are now preparing their stocks of religious images in preparation for the coming International Eucharistic Congress. Asked by a neighbor about their enthusiasm over the scheduled IEC, the wife said: "We are preparing to go back to where we came from." (In Bisayan she said: "Nangandam mi’ng mobalik sa among gigikanang relihiyon.")
