CEBU, Philippines — Buoyed by the tremendous success it attained for the past 24 years, the management of Sunsport Basketball Training Camp will be offering a free basketball seminar to all interested parties on December 28 at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

“With the success we enjoyed for the past two decades and a half already, it is only but fitting for us to give something back to our loyal followers. It’s our own way of saying thanks to them this holiday season,” said Sunsport manager Andrew C. Choachuy.

Open to basketball enthusiasts, coaches, Physical Education teachers, players, students and mere fans of the sport, the three-hour workshop will be conducted by US-based Cebuano skills trainer and coach Jeff Codera.

A member of the Golden State Warriors’ training camp in the NBA, Codera is also a licensed Gold coach of USA Basketball under its Youth Development Program.

Codera, who has helped sharpen the skills of national team players Reggie Hearn of the United States and Adrian Zamora of Mexico and his compatriot Jeff Chan of Gilas Pilipinas, will center training module on skills training and conditioning techniques.

Among the major topics that he will be discussing are the importance of safety, stretching and warm-ups; how to evaluate the strong and weak side of a player; and proper footwork, pivot, and balance drills to avoid injury and turnovers.

Codera will also take up some vital aspects in using the Sunsport Heavy Training Ball (HTB), particularly basic dribbling drills and two balls dribbling strengthening drills using HTBs, two regular balls and one HTB passing drills, and two HTBs attacking the basket drills.

Furthermore, Codera will impart his technical know-how on plyo basketball training drills in various positions.

“Out of this basketball skills seminar, we aim to help the parents, coaches and young talents understand how important it is to improve one’s skills at a higher level,” said Codera.

“Nowadays, basketball is evolving that we have to comprehend each aspect of training and how to apply it safely. We also aspire to develop the abilities of each player using the Heavy Training Ball by Sunsport,” added Codera.

“And as a coach, I will dedicate my knowledge and passion to make a huge impact in the society, guide our new generation of players to the right path, and inspire them as they journey through their respective careers.”

The registration starts at 8 am. The seminar proper will run from 9 am until 12 nn.

Aside from being open to the public for free, Sunsport will also be raffling off exciting prizes to those who will be taking part in its worthwhile undertaking.
