SWU Lady Cobras take on USJ-R in finals

CEBU, Philippines — Defending champion Southwestern University-Phinma Lady Cobras arranged a championship date with University of San Jose Recoletos  as they repulsed their respective foes in the women’s division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) volleyball tournament yesterday at the University of San Carlos gym.

SWU and USJ-R are set to slug it out in Game 1 of their best-of-three finals series starting on November 19.

SWU spikers advanced with relative ease, whipping USC in straight sets, 25-14, 15-18, 25-22.

USJ-R, on the other hand, overpowered University of Southern Philippines Foundation in a thrilling four-setter match, 20-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-15, to earn the finals slot.

Meanwhile, SWU’s men’s squad also booked their finals ticket after an impressive three-setter victory over USJ-R, 25-12, 27-25, 27-25. SWU will take on University of the Visayas in a non-bearing match next week.

USJ-R spikers who tasted their first defeat in the semis will figure in a do-or-die game against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University for the finals berth. (FREEMAN)
