Jaguars eye revenge against Webmasters
CEBU, Philippines — The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars and the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters take on each other again, this time with different goals in mind in the 17th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation , Inc.(CESAFI) men's basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum today.
Coming off a 73-67 beating of the Southwestern University-Phinma (SWU) Cobras, the Jaguars will not only seek payback of their 77-83 loss to UC in the classification stage last September 2 but will also try to continue their drive towards the No.2 spot, while the Webmasters gun for an all-important victory to secure a semifinal berth.
With a 7-2 win-loss record, the Jaguars need only to hurdle one of their last three assignments to lock up a twice-to-beat advantage in the round of four most likely against the skidding University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, who dropped to 6-4 after losing three of their four games in the second round of elimination.
The Webmasters, on the other hand, are currently at fourth spot with a 5-4 slate but are still looking for one more win to safely barge into the next round. Should that happens, up next for them are the twice-to-beat defending champion University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers.
Before the Jaguars-Webmasters duel at 5:30 p.m., the SWU Cobras hope to breathe life to their sagging semis bid as they go up against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers at 4 p.m.
In non-bearing games under the juniors division, the USJ-R Baby Jaguars will go up against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens in the opener at 1 p.m., while the USC Baby Warriors will tackle the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons at 2:30 p.m. (FREEMAN)
