B-Meg Junior Tennis Cup Pague, Ortega start strong
CEBU, Philippines - Mindanao’s Jose Marie Pague and Ibarra Ortega hurdled their opening assignments with relative ease at the start of the Cebu leg of the B-Meg Junior Tennis Cup yesterday at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.
Pague handily beat Rey Dante Toledo, 8-0, to advance in the quarterfinal round of the boys 18 division.
Ortega, on the other hand, also marched into the quarters after an 8-5 victory over Francis Navales.
The other matches in the boys 18 saw Noelle Garces beating Paul Helary Coderos, 10-8, while Rey Moses Amba upended Francis Jay Ricana, 8-3 and Kevin Pantillo annihilated Paulo Cortez, 8-2.
Adriane Kinaadman and Richard Bautista also secured slots in the next round of the 16-under action. Kinaadman scored an 8-0 victory over Matthew Derence Gullem as Bautista defeated Jan Adiran Kho. Toledo and Raphael Merced completed the cast of the boys 16 quarterfinals.
In the boys 14 matches, Jerico Otico overpowered Clarence John Mabansag, 8-1, while Jhon Kenneth Tenepre clobbered Peter Andre Romero,8-0.
In the girls action at the CitiGreen Tennis Resort, Katrina Plopenio bounced back after losing to Aubrey Calma in the 16-under class after she had a walkover win in the 14-under.
Ghylliana Yu also won against Maria Maxiel Rica Labrador, 8-4, while Lyra Mae Repollo blasted Angelika Claridad, 8-0.
Sydney Ezra Enriquez triumphed over Phel Hazel Coderos, 8-1, in the girls 14, while Hannah Faith Tapic escaped Keirsten Albofera, 8-6. Tiffany Claire Nocos also dominated Shedel Aighey Gica, 8-0. (FREEMAN)
