CEBU, Philippines - Southwestern University Spiking Cobras slammed University of Santo Thomas to book a semifinal ticket in the 2016 Nestea Beach Volley Championships yesterday in Boracay Island.

The duo of Rommel Pepito and Alden Dave Cabaron overcame a lackluster opening set to forge a decider en route to an 18-21, 22-20, 15-9 victory.

Earlier, SWU also posted a lopsided 21-8, 21-11 win over College of St. Benilde.

SWU has a big chance of facing fellow Cebuano team University of San Jose-Recoletos in the next round if the latter prevails in their next assignment.

For their part, SWU lady spikers of Therese Rae Ramas and Floremel Rodriguez also opened their bid with a win over Adamson University, 21-19, 21-17.

PRISAA National Games beach volleyball MVP Kent Verbosidad and Alastair Gairanod of the University of the Visayas also scored a convincing 21-10, 23-21 victory over Lyceum of the Philippines University.

USJ-R’s Paula Maninang and Jessa Orquia bounced back after losing their first match by upending Mindanao State University, 21-7, 21-19.
