USJ-R boys squad starts strong in CESAFI volleyball
CEBU, Philippines- The University of San Jose-Recoletos boys squad, last year’s runner-up, sent a strong message to their opponents after claiming their second straight win in the secondary boys’ division in the volleyball event of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. at the Aznar Coliseum, yesterday.
USJR-R triumphed against University of Southern Philippines Foudation, 25-4, 25-6, after their opening day victory in the expense of Cebu Institute of Technology University, 25-4, 25-6.
CIT-U, for its part, managed to bounce back from its loss right away with a hard earned win against Don Bosco Technology Center, 25-19, 25-21, 25-23.
In the women’s division, defending champion Southwestern University and it’s runner-up Cebu Doctor’s University had contrasting fates in their first assignments.
SWU prevented a bad start and pulled away a 25-15, 25-14,25-14 win against the University of Cebu female spikers.
But CDU succumbed to the offensive onslaught of USPF women’s team in four sets, 3-1.
USPF won the first set, 25-17 but relaxed on the ensuing set that paved way for CDU to tie the match at 1-1 following a 25-22 set points in favor of the latter.
USPF then bounced back and came to dominate the next two sets to win the game, 25-21, 25-17. (FREEMAN)
