One of Cordova's most wanted falls

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines – One of the 10 most wanted criminals in Cordova was arrested last Saturday after two years of hiding.

Jimenez Tomaquin, 20, a member of the notorious Crips gang, was arrested by virtue of a warrant issued by Judge Toribio Quiwag of the Regional Trial Court in Lapu-Lapu City.

Tomaquin and three other members of Crips - Alejandro Andales, Bryan Limpangog, and Rodney Angco - are facing charges of murder and frustrated murder for stabbing two members of their rival gang Bloods on August 11, 2008.

Brothers Arjie Caren, 21, and Jason Caren, 24, were heading home around 1:45am from a concert at the Cordova Sports Complex when attacked by the four suspects.

Arjie sustained several fatal wounds while Jason also sustained major wounds. The two were brought to the Mactan Doctor's Hospital, but Arjie was declared dead on arrival. Jason was in critical condition for a time, but survived.

PO2 Alex Noron of the Cordova police said they arrested Tomaquin around 2am at the house of friend in Barangay Poblacion. They implemented the warrant after learning that Tomaquin had returned home to vote in the recent barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

"Nilayas siya pagkahibaw nga gi-filan og kaso, sige mi'g monitor pero ma-negative kay maayo pud kaayo mutago," Noron said.

The court earlier recommended P200,000 for his temporary liberty for the frustrated murder case, but no bail was recommended for the murder case.

Andales, Limpangog and Angco were arrested first and are currently detained at the Cordova Detention Cell.

Gang rivalry was seen as the motive of the 2008 attack. The two fraternities have had a long history of violence. (FREEMAN)
