Olango students, parents took oath to promote peace, order

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza swore in about 1,000 students and parents as newly-appointed members of the Junior Police and Parents Brigade on Olango Island.

During her speech, Radaza said she hoped that both the Junior Police and Parents Brigade will help the authorities in making their city clean and orderly, most especially to the schools where they are in.

“Akong panghinaot nga motabang kamo sa atong kapulisan sa pagpatuman sa kahapsay ug kalinaw sa atong dakbayan, ilabi na sa atong matag eskwelahan,” she said.

The mayor also said that she will count on them in protecting the environment surrounding them.

“Nga motabang kamo sa pag protekta sa atong kalikupan. And I will definitely count on you,” she said.

“After a month of going around the different districts for the Junior Police and Parents Brigade training, we are all gathered here for this investiture ceremony. You are finally conferred with your respective positions as Junior Police and Parents Brigade of our City. This may sound cliché, but this still stands true, that ‘with great power comes great responsibility’,” she added.

Radaza said much is expected from the students and parents, since they would serve as peacemakers and protectors in their communities.

“You are vested with the power to promote peace and order in  your school and in your community. You are given the responsibility to ensure that our children are secured and protected. You are given the task to be the peacemakers in your respective schools. You are bestowed with the responsibility to be our partner, in the City Government, to bring about positive change among our constituency. To foster in them good citizenship. To promote love, respect and concern to their school, community and the city,” she added.

Radaza, however, reminded them to never abuse their position or power.

“Ako naglaum nga mamahimo kamo namo nga among partners sa pagpalambo sa atong dakbayan. Apan,  aduna  lang akoy usa ka hangyo kaninyo. Never ever abuse your positions. Akong gipanghinaut nga dili ninyo gamiton sa pagpang-abuso sa isig katawo ang inyong position isip Junior Police ug Parents Brigade. Ania kamo karon dinhi kay ako, kami nagatoo nga kamo ang magdala ug kalinaw ug kahapsay sa inyong skwelahan ug komunidad,’ she said.

Last December 11, about 3,000 members of Junior Police and Parents Brigade from the mainland also had their investiture. (FREEMAN)
