8 Weather Stations in Cebu: Group can ascertain ‘real-time weather’

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — For the public to know real-time weather conditions, Weather Philippines  reported  it  has already set up 822 Automated Weather Stations and 400 local government units all over the country as its partners.

"Pagasa is still the official weather authority but ours is more on preparedness," said Dave Micah Valeriano, Weather Philippines Foundation general manager, in a talk during the Cebu Federation of Beat Journalists 17th General Assembly and Induction of Officers.

Valeriano said they have eight weather stations in Cebu, enabling them to determine the weather in a specific area in the province.

He said they have briefed 860 disaster risk reduction officers and at least 4,000 from the LGUs and the private sector on weather  information.

Technologies used by Weather Philippines include ultrasonic weather sensor, rain gauge, solar panels with redundant LI-poly batteries and the DOST-ATI Data Logger.
