2 radio technicians file complaint vs dyRC

Gregg M. Rubio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Two technicians of dyRC, a Cebu-based radio station, have filed a complaint against the management for paying them less than the minimum wage and for allegedly not remitting their monthly premiums and contributions.

Senior technician Richard Antone and technician Renato Guanga, who reportedly caused the off-air of the radio station in the past two weeks, have formally elevated the issue before the National Labor Relations Commission.

The NLRC Regional Arbitration Branch No. VII has set on Thursday the conciliation conference between the technicians and Juniño Padilla, station manager of DYRC under Bisalog Broadcasting Station.

Antone and Guanga have sought the legal assistance of lawyer Inocencio dela Cerna Jr. on their plight as regular employees of the station for almost seven years already.

This prompted dela Cerna to write a letter dated August 23, 2017 addressed to Juan Elizalde, vice president for operations of Manila Broadcasting Company, the franchise owner of DYRC.

Antone and Guanga claimed that they have been receiving salaries way below the minimum wage allowed by law.

The employees have been asking Padilla for a proper wage payment which the latter reportedly agreed to comply with.

But they said Padilla’s promises remain unfulfilled.

Padilla also allegedly did not remit their shares and premiums to the Social Security System (SSS), Pag-IBIG Fund and PhilHealth.

Dela Cerna said Padilla’s non-action is also a reasonable ground for the filing of separate criminal actions against him.

Dela Cerna added that his clients have now experienced pressure and coercion from Padilla following the complaint.

Dela Cerna asked Elizalde’s intercession on the on-going dispute and controversy hounding the management of the radio station.

While the radio station is now heard on air, DYRC will be re-launched today as Aksyon Radyo. (FREEMAN)
