CPA promises to assist Cebu Province in disasters

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial government and the Cebu Ports Authority have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding as a sign of their commitment to each other in times of responding to calamities.

Based on the MOU, the CPA grounds will serve as a temporary storage area of the equipment, materials, and supplies of the Capitol's Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office during calamities.

The MOU was signed by Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III and CPA General Manager Angelo Verdan, during the PDRRMO council meeting in Golden Prince Hotel last July 18.

In times of responding to a need or an incident, the PDRRMO said they will need the technical support of CPA particularly in the transportation of needed goods and supplies to certain affected areas.

According to the MOU of both parties, the CPA has also committed to shoulder emergency planning assistance if needed and will be involved in the emergency preparedness and response training the PDRRMO will conduct on personnel of the said agency.

This will ensure there is an efficient mechanism for the immediate delivery of food, shelter, and medical supplies in the temporary storage area within CPA’s jurisdiction, according to the MOA. (FREEMAN)
