CEBU, Philippines - Half of the P4-million worth of drugs the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) recovered last week came from Barangays Quiot and Duljo-Fatima, a stronghold of slain Central Visayas top drug lord, Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz.

In the latest information from CCPO on its operation against illegal-drugs and criminality in its eleven police stations, Barangays Quiot and Duljo Fatima emerged as top yielders, with a total of P2,075,384 worth of drugs recovered in these communities.

Both barangays are within the jurisdiction of Mambaling Police Station.

Quiot yielded P1,065,776 worth of illegal drugs, while P1,009,608 worth of illegal drugs were recovered from Duljo-Fatima last week.

The CCPO recovered about 395.56 grams of suspected shabu from newly-identified drug personalities, which is valued at P4,667,968.

Since Barangay Duljo-Fatima was considered as Jaguar’s stronghold, the police will intensify their operations in the area until such time the barangay is cleared from any form of illegal drugs.

“I’m very thankful to all personnel.  This is due to their full support with the programs of the PNP as whole,” said Mambaling Police Station Head Senior Inspector Eduard Sanchez.

CCPO Director Joel Doria said one of the factors that aided the police in their operation is the cooperation of the community by immediately reporting suspicious activities to the authorities.

“Maganda na man yun kasi nakikipag-coordinate ang ating mamamayan. They provide information na rin and, of course, we always treat that confidentially,” Doria said.

Doria added the city police already have three barangays to recommend as drug-cleared to the oversight committee against all forms of illegal drugs.

The police, however, are withholding the names of the barangays until they are 100 percent certain, in order to avoid recurring problems of drug pushers moving from one place to another, after hearing news that it is cleared or the police force has lessen its operation in a particular area.

“Kung titingnan kasi natin, ang laro ng mga pusher nayan, kung mainit sa isang lugar, ay lilipat lang. Dapat continuous monitoring.  Mahirap na i-declare natin na drug-free.  Siguruhin natin na talagang wala na,” Doria said.

He added that the volume confiscated here in Cebu is due to the geographical location of the island, where it is being utilized as trans-shipment for drugs coming from other places.

He had previously said that one of the solutions is to tighten security in ports and to cut all forms of communication from correctional facilities, as recent intelligence reports showed that there are inmates directing drug couriers the details of the drop-off points for illegal drugs.

“Number one talaga is totally cut ang information. Ang ginagawa is doon ang mga nagbibigay ng go-signal, kung saan ide-deliver at kung sino ang pagbibigyan,” Doria said. (FREEMAN)
