Talisay City Jail strafed
CEBU, Philippines - Two men on board a motorcycle peppered the gate of the Talisay City Jail with bullets midnight last Monday.
No one was injured in the incident but at least 12 empty shells of a 9mm pistol and two empty shells of a caliber 45 pistol were recovered from the scene. Jail officials are still baffled at what happened.
“Wala pa mi idea. Padayon pa ang investigation. Siguro, panghadlok ‘to ilang gibuhat… dili pa mi ka-asses,” Jail Warden Gil Inopia told The Freeman yesterday.
The police are also investigating the incident.
Footage from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera showed two men on board a motorcycle pass by the jail. When they reached the gate, one of the two men opened fire, peppering the gate with bullets. They fled the area right after.
Inopia said the CCTV footage is not enough to ascertain the identity of the two as they were wearing hoodies and the area outside the gate was dark.
The jail’s security personnel were positioned inside the gate at that time.
Inopia said the detainees did not notice what happened as the main gate is a distance away from the actual jail cells.
“Layo ra man na ang main gate, wala ra sila nakabantay,” said Inopia.
He said security at the jail will be tightened.
“Tight naman gyod ta sa una pa, but the more ta karon nga mag-vigilant,” he said. (FREEMAN)
