Jaguar’s uncle killed in shootout with cops

CEBU, Philippines - An uncle of alleged slain drug lord Jaguar Diaz was killed in a shootout with police operatives during a buy-bust operation in Sitio Sien, Barangay Balirong, Naga City, Cebu Saturday evening.

The police identified the suspect as Edgar Diaz Lampaog, a resident of the said place, and was considered as a high-value target.

The Naga City police operatives, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-7, conducted a buy-bust operation against Lampaog after placing under surveillance for weeks.

Police Superintendent Gregorio Galsim, who heads the Naga City Police Station, said that when Lampaog noticed that he was transacting with policemen, he allegedly tried to elude arrest by shooting it out with the operatives.

Lampaog got wounded in the different parts of his body and was rushed to the Minglanilla District Hospital, but did not make it to the said medical facility alive.

The police, however, said they were able to complete the transaction with the suspect, where they were able to recover one large pack of suspected shabu and the P1000 marked money.

Lampaog’s alleged cohort, Glen Cabunillas, 27, who was in the area during the operation, was also arrested by the operatives, while a certain Kevin Chaves eluded arrest.

Cabunillas, in an interview, confessed he was a drug user.  The police seized one small pack of suspected shabu from his possession.

He added that he is a relative of Lampaog and, at the same time, works as the latter's fighting cock handler.

Recovered at the crime scene was a .38 revolver, a .45 pistol, a hand grenade, two large and two of small packs of suspected shabu.

Inside Lampaog’s Nissan Navarra vehicle, with plate number PV1638, the police recovered one unit of .380 caliber, STI with serial number 60R8D2S with magazine loaded with four cartridges and another two packs of suspected shabu.

Cabunillas is now detained at the station for the filing of appropriate criminal charges against him. —/GAN (FREEMAN)
