‘Drunk’ driver kills man
CEBU, Philippines - A man walking along the side of the street was killed after he was hit by a speeding multicab driven by a "drunk" driver in Barangay Upper Tulay, Minglanilla Sunday evening.
Florante Ferolino, 28, of Sitio Kry-ass Barangay Tungkop Minglanilla was walking at the side of the street along the national highway when he was hit by the multicab driven by Rainerio Solis, 52 a resident of Barangay Pooc Talisay.
Joseph Siarza, 22, who was walking with the victim, later told police that the vehicle was travelling fast.
Ferolino was immediately rushed to the Minglanilla District Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
Based on investigation, Solis lost control of the multicab and hit Ferolino, while Siarza was able to avoid the impact.
Solis allegedly tried to escape, but concerned bystanders chased him. He was eventually apprehended in Barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla.
According to PO1 Alvin Traya, Solis was drunk during the incident and denied hitting Ferolino.
"Wala gali siya nakahibaw nga nakaligis siya," he added.
Solis is now detained pending the filing of a case against him by the victim's family. (FREEMAN)
