City Hall flooded with jobseekers

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Hall has been flooded with job applications, mostly coming from the political supporters of Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

The Human Resources Department Office has already received about 25,000 applications from May until now.

HRMO officer-in-charge Marievelle Abella said the mayor has already hired at least 500 people.

"Actually the hiring is with the mayor, he's the appointing authority," Abella said.

Abella said most of the City Hall departments are requesting for additional personnel since there were employees whose contracts were co-terminus with former Mayor Michael Rama.

Among the offices that requested for additional personnel include the Department of Public Services, City Health Department and the City Treasurer's Office.

Abella said they are giving preference to the DPS and the CTO since it is the mayor's priority to improve the garbage collection and the efficient tax collection.

Abella said most of the positions available are for casual employees. She could not, however, provide the exact number of positions to be filled.

According to Abella, it will depend on the appointing authority and the needs of the requesting department. — Rose Ann C. Mañanita and Ricsel Jazon Mañanita (FREEMAN)
