Policeman hurt in Danao road accident
CEBU, Philippines - A police officer was injured after his motorcycle was accidentally hit by a tricycle along the national highway in Barangay Tayatay, Danao City Thursday morning.
Police Officer 1 Regan Perilla, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Danao City and is assigned at Danao City Police Station, only sustained minor injuries.
According to chief investigator Senior Police Officer 1 Reynante Manulat, the accident happened while Perilla was driving on his way to Barangay Guinsay to supposedly join their scheduled checkpoint.
The police officer was almost near his destination and slowed down the motorcycle when a tricycle behind him suddenly hit the rear of his vehicle.
The tricycle, which was loaded with passengers, was being driven by Benedicto Aguanta, 38, of Barangay Dawis Norte in the nearby town of Carmen.
Due to the impact, Perilla swerved to the other lane and landed on the pavement, his motorcycle over him.
“Imbes handbrake iyang (Aguanta) pisliton, ang accelerator na hinuon ang napislitan maong nibulhot ni padung ngadto sa motor,” said Manulat.
Perilla’s colleagues who were already at the checkpoint area witnessed the accident and reported it to the police station.
Perilla was rushed to Danao Provincial Hospital where he underwent CT scan. He was later released on the same day.
The policeman has decided not to file a case against the tricycle driver who promised to shoulder the medical expenses and assist in fixing the victim’s motorcycle.
Perilla allegedly understood the driver and even volunteered to shoulder half of the expenses. — (FREEMAN)
