Armed man runs amuck, nabbed

CEBU, Philippines - Police arrested a man who reportedly ran amuck while armed with a gun on Saturday afternoon in Barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla.

Arrested was Rene Noro, 42, who broke empty bottles of softdrinks and destroyed a traffic signage.

Police Officer 2 Nikki Carlo Plarisan of Minglanilla Police said they received a call for help from the attendant of a bakery shop in Tungkop.

The caller said a man outside their bakery broke bottles and even destroyed the traffic signage.

Police responded to the area and approached the suspect, who they noticed was armed with a firearm.

They asked him to show his weapon that was tucked into his waist as well as the necessary documents for carrying a weapon.

The suspect showed the gun, a cal. 45 pistol loaded with ammunition, but failed to show any legal documents, hence his arrest.

An extra magazine also loaded with bullets was further found in the suspect’s right pocket.

A few hours later, an armed man was also arrested in Barangay Tubigagmanok, Asturias town.

The suspect was identified as Alexander Narvasa, 45, who was confiscated with an improvised shotgun locally known as pugakhang.

Police responded to the area after receiving a call from a concerned citizen about the suspect being armed with a gun.

They then met the suspect along the way and disarmed him.

Both suspects are facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and of the Comelec gun ban. —  (FREEMAN)
