CEBU, Philippines — The Municipality of Samboan garnered the lion’s share of awards in this year’s “Eats Meet West” culinary competition.

Recognized and awarded during the competition’s culminating and awarding ceremony on November 19 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, the municipality bagged the competition’s Best Appetizer, Best Dessert, Best Welcome Drink, Best Pasalubong and Best Main Course awards.

Eleven mid-west Cebu cities and municipalities participated in the “Eats Meet West” culinary competition, which took place on November 18 to 19.

Samboan placed second in the competition’s “Best Interpretation of a 1923 Recipe” – yielding to Bogo City which placed first. The recipes used in this component of the competition were taken from a circa-1923 cookbook by Maria “Señora Inday” Fadullon Rallos, author of the “Lagda sa Pagpanluto” cookbook.

Now on its third year, “Eats Meet West” is a culinary event spearheaded by the Cebu Provincial Tourism Office. Its highlights include food forums, food fair, product exhibits and inter-municipality/city cooking competitions.

This year, the event opened on November 16 and closed on November 19. (FREEMAN)
