Feng shui - for a healthy and prosperous life

Nathan Cabello - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Chinese believes in feng shui as an important aid in having a healthy and prosperous life. Feng shui is a philosophy regarding the attainment of harmony and balance with one's surroundings, for his benefit. Feng Shui concepts consist of calculations, logical rulings, and the observance of five elements, namely Wood, Fire, Earth Metal and Water.

Feng shui has been passed down from generation to generation for over 5000 years. It is centered on the Chi, which means energy. The Chinese believes that everything around has Chi. When Chi is not balanced and not flowing properly, disharmony and bad luck occur. Feng shui may then be applied to balance the Chi and bring about better luck and happiness.

Maps and special compasses are used by feng shui masters to find out if the home or business establishment in the proper position or arrangement to attract wealth, fortune, and good health. The way things are placed at every nook and cranny of the house or any structure has implications on the economic or financial, health and relationship conditions for the people of the place - either as residents or workers.

If objects at home have not been placed properly, the belief is that the family is likely to face obstacles in life. Colors, designs, plants, mirrors etc. are some of the things to be considered in feng shui. The orientations of doors are of special importance.

Feng shui embraces everything to be inter-related in some way, whether animate or inanimate. Even in these modern times, feng shui continues to have its appeal. Some people find it very logical, others swear by its beneficial effects.

In the final analysis, everything in life and in the world is inter-related. When the tree in the yard is cut for firewood, there becomes less filter for the air that family breathes in. And when the firewood is burnt, the smoke goes up burdens the ozone layer. Polluted air, sweltering climate and erratic weather create conditions that adversely affect human health - not to mention how it also affect the plants and animals that humans feed on.

Feng shui, after all, is right. (FREEMAN)
