Johnny Depp reacts to wife’s divorce filing

CEBU, Philippines - Less than one day after E! News confirmed that Amber Heard filed for divorce, Johnny Depp broke his silence.

The actor’s representative released the following statement: “Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully, the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly.”

His response also requests that Heard, who starred in “Magic Mike XXL” and “The Danish Girl,” pay her own attorney fees.

The 30-year-old actress filed for divorce earlier this week citing “irreconcilable differences” after the two were married for a little over a year.

A source told E! News at the time that the famous duo did not have a prenuptial agreement in place.

Heard has previously spoken about wanting to keep their relationship and marriage as out of the public eye as possible, telling Marie Claire magazine, “I try not to react to the horrible misrepresentation of our lives, but it is strange, and hard.”

She did open up to the magazine about becoming a stepmother to Depp’s two kids, Lily Rose, 16, and Jack, 13, saying that it has been “an honor and the greatest, most surprising gift I have ever received in my life.”

Heard added, “I feel new flavors that I didn’t know existed. New colors that I didn’t know existed have been added to my life. I’m so happy.”

According to court documents, Heard is asking for spousal support, however, Depp has filed a response asking the judge to reject his ex’s request.

The two met on the set of the 2011 film “The Rum Diary” and were wed in a private ceremony at their Los Angeles home before celebrating in front of family and friends in the Bahamas.

Since news of their split broke, reports have surfaced that the 52-year-old “Pirates of the Caribbean” star’s family — particularly his mother, Betty Sue Palmer, who died Friday at age 81 — were not fans of Heard, which allegedly caused friction between the couple.

Depp was previously with partner Vanessa Paradis for 14 years; he and the French actress-singer share daughter Lily-Rose, 16, and Jack, 14. (FREEMAN)
